Go For Broke Day – This was
the motto of the 443nd Regimental Combat Team, a segregated
Japanese-American unit serving in World War II, and one of the most
decorated units in the army. The day specifically highlights one of
the members of that unit, Sadao S. Munemori, who died on this day in
1945 in the process of saving two men in his unit. He is also
credited with contributing greatly to the ultimate success of his
unit's mission.
National Deep Dish Pizza Day –
Originated in Chicago in 1943, the purpose of this day is to spread
awareness of this delicious alternative to the junk food classic.
Hospital Admitting Clerks Day –
The admitting clerks are vital members of the hospital staff. It's
not just about the doctors and nurses, without people to handle the
paper work and administrative details, the hospital would not be able
to function.
National Walk To Work Day –
Always celebrated on the first Friday in April, get those sneakers
laced up and let's hope it doesn't rain today.
To celebrate today, walk to work this
morning. Then since it will be lunch time when you get there and you will have worked up a big appetite, have some deep dish pizza and raisin and
spice bars for lunch. You're long trip walking home will result in a twisted
ankle so you might as well just head to the local hospital now. Make sure you thank the
admitting clerks for their hard work while you're there and tell them
about Mr. Munemori's great sacrifice.
