Today we celebrate:

National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day – This is a day to focus on the impact of HIV/AIDS on females of all ages. The motto today is “Share Knowledge. Take Action.” Learn how to prevent getting the disease and if it's too late for that, take action and start treatments that will prolong your life.

International Day Of Awesomeness – Created by Kevin Lawver in 2007, this is a day to celebrate the awesomeness of everyone. Mr. Lawver's son thought of their motto, “No one's perfect, but everyone can be awesome.” This day was chosen because it is the day that Chuck Norris, the man who defined awesomeness, was born. But this is not a Chuck Norris love fest, this is a day for each and every person to celebrate their own unique awesomeness. http://dayofawesomeness.com/

National Blueberry Popover Day – Popovers are light, airy, and delicious if you make them right. If you don't, they are like hockey pucks. You'll probably just have to trust me on that one because I'm sure yours will be delicious.

Salvation Army Day – On this day in 1880, Preacher William Booth and his wife Catherine, founded the organization that became known as the Salvation Army. The organization was dedicated to helping people and spreading the word of God at the same time and was modeled after the British Army so William Booth called himself General William Booth, although he wasn't officially a general. It was ahead of its time in one regard, women and men held equal ranks. Initially the work could be hazardous and many of its' officers and soldiers were imprisoned and even killed. But they were absolutely dedicated to their cause and were recognized and welcomed by President Grover Cleveland in 1886. http://blog.salvationarmyusa.org/2010/03/10/

Landline Telephone Day – On this day in 1876, Alexander Graham Bell made the first ever telephone call. This is a day to celebrate your landline, if you still have one. I do because I love that it still works when the power goes out and it never needs to be charged.

Pack Your Lunch Day – This is a day for all those people who buy lunch every day. Today you are to pack your lunch and bring it with you. If it's a nice day, go outside to eat if you can. But save a little money by bringing your own lunch instead of buying today.

Napping Day – This day was begun in 1999 by William & Camille Anthony to combat the effects of Daylight Savings exhaustion. I think they compared it to jet lag. Find a comfy, quiet place this afternoon and take a little snooze. It will help you get through the rest of your day without being too cranky.

Fill Our Staplers Day – This was created by the Dull Men's Club, who believe that it is very annoying to be confronted by an empty stapler just when you need to staple something. So twice a year, on the Monday after the time changes for Daylight Savings, fill your stapler and hope that it lasts until the next Fill Our Staplers Day. http://www.dullmensclub.com/calendar/details/305.html

US Paper Money Day – On this day in 1862, the first paper money was issued in the United States. The denominations were $5, $10 and $20. This money became legal tender on March 17th of that year. They had coins for money before then, but they were somewhat scarce and expensive to make. Paper was much cheaper so the government was all for it. Of course, it had been tried before during the Revolutionary War, but people didn't have much faith in paper money then. It was too new and they didn't see that it was worth anything so it failed. The government had much better success in 1862. And since it's been more than 150 years since then, and we still use it, I guess it has worked out alright.

To celebrate today, have blueberry popovers for breakfast and fill your staplers so you're ready for the day, then save some money by packing your lunch. Stop at the Salvation Army on the way to work to drop off a donation of paper money, maybe as much as you would have spent on lunch or maybe more, your choice. Use a landline and call all the women in your life to make sure they know how to keep themselves safe from HIV/AIDS. Then take a nap to rest up so you can spend the rest of the day impressing the world with your own personal and unique awesomeness.
