John Parker Day – On this day in 1775, John Parker, a farmer and Captain of the Lexington Militia, commanded his men at the famous Battle of Lexington. He is credited with saying to his men, “Stand your ground. Don't fire unless fired upon, but if they mean to have a war, let it begin here.” Of course, his men either ignored his order or didn’t hear it because by some accounts one of them fired the shot that began the war. It is interesting to note that John Parker was sick with Consumption at that time and died a few months later.

Oklahoma City Bombing Commemoration Day – On this day in 1995, a truck bomb exploded next to the Alfred P. Murrah federal building killing 168 people, including 19 children, and injuring hundreds more. Two people were responsible, ( I will not name them because I don't want their names to be remembered, it would be far better to remember the names of the victims.) one was executed, and one is serving life in prison.
