How many people can you get to donate a day's wages to charity just to so that you will stop your chicken dance?  Hmmm...Something to think about, isn't it?

National Receptionist Day – Created by the National Receptionists Association and celebrated on the 2nd Wednesday in May, this is a day to celebrate the receptionists that work in almost every company in America.  When a customer walks in the door if the receptionist doesn't make a good impression on behalf of the company, many times that customer will walk back out again. They work hard to maintain the image of their company and to promote that company's capabilities.  This year,the NRA is going to try to make this an International celebration.  Their first forays are with the United Kingdom and Australia.  http://www.nationalreceptionists.com/

Donate A Day's Wages To Charity – The second Wednesday in May is also a day to support charities. Consider donating a full day's wages to your favorite charity.  There is an organization called One Day’s Wages that is working to ease the extreme poverty that 1.4 billion people live with.  If you donate through them, they say that 100 percent of your donation will go toward the cause.  I encourage you to investigate whoever you decide to support so you can avoid falling victim to a scam.   http://www.onedayswages.org/

National Night Shift Workers Day – Another day celebrated on the second Wednesday in May. This is a day to honor those brave individuals who work at night and sleep during the day in order to keep the companies they work for operating 24 hours a day. I did it for one week when I was much younger and I thank God that I didn't have to do it any longer because I was exhausted. That is a danger that people who live this lifestyle face, perpetual exhaustion which can make doing everything much more dangerous.  You find night shift workers in many organizations the ones that comes to mind immediately are hospitals, police departments, paramedics and other health related industries although those are not, by any stretch of the imagination, all there are.

Dance Like A Chicken Day – You all know the Chicken Dance, I'm sure. Well, loosen up your elbows because today you'll be dancing like a chicken all day long.

National Buttermilk Biscuit Day – Flaky, buttery, deliciousness would be a great addition to dinner this evening.

The Stars And Stripes Forever Day – On this day in 1897, John Philip Sousa first performed “The Stars and Stripes Forever” which he had written on Christmas Day a few months before.  Later that year the United States Congress made the song the official National March of the USA.  This is a day to revel in a spirit of nationality. Let our stars and stripes fly forever.

Shavuot – This Jewish holiday begins this evening at sunset and ends on the evening of May 16th. This day is known as the Feast of Weeks, and is associated with the giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai.

Underground America Day – Created in 1974 by Malcolm Wells, this is a day to think about the ground. It may surprise you to know that many people live within it instead of on it like the rest of us and it is definitely something to consider if you find yourself thinking that you would really like to have more grass to mow and more room to plant flowers. To celebrate today, dance like a chicken and play “Stars and Stripes Forever” for every receptionist you meet today.  Then start digging your new underground home, pausing only to eat buttermilk biscuits and greet your Jewish neighbors.  Finally, wave to your neighbors who are driving off to their night shift jobs before you gratefully head to bed.
