Today we celebrate:

Brain Injury Awareness Day – On this day, as they do every year, Congress will participate in an awareness fair, briefing and reception. All focused on the effects of brain injuries which can be very traumatic and severe. It doesn't take much of an impact for your brain to be injured and it can have immense consequences that affect the victim for the remainder of his/her life.  This day does not fall on the same day every year, it is always in March, but the day depends on when the Congresspeople on the Congressional Brain Injury Task Force decide to make it.

Forgive Mom And Dad Day – This is a day for everyone to realize that children do not come with instruction manuals and we all make mistakes. As parents, all any of us can do is make the best decisions we can with the information we have available to us. For example, if your parents smoked in the house when you were a kid, before the effects of secondhand smoke were known to cause health problems with kids, forgive them because they probably would never have done it if they knew it would hurt you.

National Lacy Oatmeal Cookie Day – Oatmeal is healthy, isn't it? That's what I tell myself anyway as I'm munching on these delicious cookies.

Goddess Of Fertility Day – Celebrated before the Spring Equinox, this is a day for women who wish to conceive a baby to plead their case to Aphrodite, the ancient Greek goddess of love and fertility, by giving her offerings. I'm not too sure what she would find acceptable in the way of an offering, so don't ask me.  If you are inclined to give this a try, make it a big offering because this hasn’t really been done regularly in hundreds of years, so she is sure to be hungry.

Biodiesel Day – Born on this day in 1858, Rudolf Diesel invented the diesel engine. He planned to use vegetable oil to fuel his engine and did a lot of work in the biofuel arena. In fact, when he demonstrated his diesel engine at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1900, he ran it on peanut oil.

Supreme Sacrifice Day – This is a day that honors those who have made great sacrifices for others, maybe even for you. There have been many in our lifetime, many more if you go back further in time. Soldiers, firemen and women, policemen and women, neighbors and friends and even total strangers. Some you cannot find today because their sacrifice involved giving up their lives. But we can remember and honor all of them and live good lives to make sure that their sacrifices on our behalf were not in vain.

Awkward Moments Day – We've all had at least one awkward moment in our lives, I have had far too many to count. Celebrate them today and maybe laugh at yourself a little now that you've had some time to get over the embarrassment. It's time to acknowledge the humor in the situation.

National Agriculture Day – Started by the Agriculture Council of America in 1973, this day is for recognizing the fact that agriculture is the backbone of life. Without the abundance of agriculture, civilization could not have expanded beyond the little family farms of centuries ago. They even had an essay contest to celebrate agriculture.  Check out the winner here:

Kick Butts Day – Some of my karate friends are going to see this and say, “YES!” But read on my friends because we are talking about a different kind of 'butt'. Today is a day for fighting against the Tobacco industry, encouraging kids to not pick up the tobacco habit, and raising awareness about the health concerns related to tobacco. There are more than a thousand events of different kinds with this goal in mind scheduled around the world today.

To celebrate today, recognize that most supreme sacrifices are not planned out ahead of time. The moment comes, the decision is made, many times without conscious thought.  So don’t try to make that part of your day today but you can make a sacrifice almost as great for your children by getting rid of the cigarettes and telling them all of your more painful awkward moments from when you were young. Then call your parents and forgive them for any mistakes they may have made while raising you. Finally, hop into your biodiesel powered automobile and take some lacy oatmeal cookies (that you made from oatmeal you found at a farmer’s market) to the hospital for brain injury patients and for an offering for Aphrodite (not sure where you will find an altar for her, maybe just throw them in the ocean.) so that maybe you'll have a chance of having a baby.
