Today we celebrate:

Eat Your Vegetables Day – Yesterday we celebrated Fresh Veggies Day.  Well, today you have to actually eat them, not just have them available.  Vegetables are very good for you, but only if you eat them so your body get take advantage of the minerals, vitamins and nutrients that they have in abundance.

National Apple Strudel Day – Apple filling wrapped in a flaky, delicious pastry. Days like this make me sad that I have to be gluten-free.  It is pretty much impossible to find a good, flaky, gluten free pastry for something like mouth-watering apple strudel.

Stewarts Root Beer Day – If you are a fan of root beer, which I am not, you may share the opinion of my husband that Stewarts brand is one of the best since it is based on the root beer fountain sodas of old. Have some today and enjoy the feelings of the Good Old Days that they bring to you.

World Day To Combat Desertification and Drought – This day was declared in 1994 by the United Nations General Assembly. The first celebration day was in 1995. This is a day to focus on the serious problems of drought and desertification that many countries, particularly in Africa, face today. Solutions are possible if we work together, and of course, with the climate changing there may many other places experiencing the same problems.

Ramadan – This is an Islamic holiday that begins at sundown this evening and lasts until July 17th and involves fasting during the daylight hours. This is a time for Muslims to focus on God and to purify their souls.

To celebrate today, eat veggies with every meal.  At lunch you can also eat apple strudel and root beer while you think of a plan to combat desertification and drought. Lastly, before you go to bed, turn your thoughts to God and how to purify your soul.
