Today we celebrate:

National Bratwurst Day - This is a German sausage that has been around since the 14th century.  If you’re a fan of German food, indulge yourself today.

National Airborne Day – This day was created by George W. Bush in 2001 and approved by the United States Congress. The purpose of today is to honor our nation's airborne branch of the Armed Forces. Airborne fighting tactics have been very important to the success of innumerable battles during every war since it's creation right after World War I.

Joe Miller's Joke Day – This is a day to tell a joke in celebration of Joseph Miller, an English comic actor born sometime in the year 1684. He died on this day in 1738. During his life, he was a popular actor at the Drury Lane Theatre in London.  I know you have all been saving up your jokes all year long for just this occasion so let’s hear some good ones!  Here’s one to start you off: Q: Why did the insomniac man get arrested? A: He resisted a rest.

National Rum Day – All of my children love watching Pirates of the Caribbean. If you have seen any of those movies, you know that Captain Jack Sparrow loves rum but frequently finds that somehow it is mysteriously missing. If you enjoy drinking it too, and you are 21 years of age or older, this is a day for you.  Hopefully you won’t find yourself in the Captain’s predicament of wondering, “Why is the rum always gone?”

God's Preeminence Day – Celebrated on the third Sunday of August, this is a day for believers to pay tribute to God. Pray, meditate about God, and give all glory to God today.

To celebrate today, spend some time with God before you take an airplane to Germany for some truly authentic bratwurst.  During your flight, drink some rum and tell jokes to your fellow passengers.
