Today we celebrate:

Tear The Tags Off The Mattress Day - I know, the tags say that you should leave them on. But I’m pretty sure that only means that they should stay on until the mattresses have been purchased. Once they are yours, you can do whatever you want with them so feel free to go ahead and tear off those tags. I can pretty much guarantee that doing so won’t cause the police to come knocking at your door. If they do, I am reasonably sure they have another reason.

National Butterscotch Brownie Day - You might also know these by the name ‘Blondies’. That’s how I grew up referring to them. They are really good brownies for people like my husband who find they cannot eat chocolate any more. While that is a very sad situation to find yourself in, these delectable morsels will help you overcome the disappointment.

Europe Day (Schuman Day) - The Council of Europe was formed on May 5, 1949. A day was established to celebrate that fact in 1964. However, in 1985, the European Union (or European Communities as it was called then) changed the date to today to coincide with that fact that on this day in 1950, the French foreign minister, Robert Schuman made a historical declaration that led to the eventual creation of the European Union. Europe united economically to protect themselves from another conflict like the one they had just been through that nearly destroyed the entire continent.

National Moscato Day – I've never had this kind of wine before, but today is as good a day as any to try something new. Enjoy a glass today, just be careful about how much you drink if you have to drive home.

Lost Sock Memorial Day – I have a drawer that has plenty of single socks. I have no idea where the lost socks go but I suspect that my daughter, who wears the same size now and NEVER matches her socks (some sort of fashion trend), swiped them. I've never really believed the whole washing machine sock stealing conspiracy theory.

National Women's Check-up Day – Celebrated on the Monday of National Women’s Health Week, this is a day for women to make sure they are healthy by going to the doctor for a checkup. I know, I know….you don't have time for that. But you also don't have time for a serious, and possibly avoidable, health issue like diabetes or heart disease. Keep on top of your health and you will have a better chance of catching small problems, and fixing them, before they are big problems.
