Today we celebrate:

Have a Party with your Bear Day - Everyone loves a party, even bears. Send out invitations to include all of your friend’s bears, plan the menu and dress up your bear. Then have some fun!

National Button Day - This is a day for old buttons. I love old buttons. There are an absolutely endless number of different styles and sizes and colors. I could look through tins of old buttons for hours. I’ve started my own collection but it takes time to build up a big enough one to be interesting.

National Fast Food Day - Some people live on fast food, others avoid it like it’s the plague. We tend to live a happy medium, I do try to choose items on fast food menus that are as healthy as possible such as a salad but frankly sometimes either dinner is fast or there is no dinner. The first fast food establishment that I am aware of was a hot dog stand on Coney Island that opened in 1867.

International Day for Tolerance – In 1996, the United Nations General Assembly invited its' Member States to observe this day every year with activities geared toward educating their populations about how important tolerance of others is to world peace.

GIS Day (Geographic Information Systems) – Celebrated on the third Wednesday in November, this is a day to demonstrate the real and practical uses of GIS. This technology has expanded the lives of millions of direction challenged people all over the world. This day was first celebrated in 1999 and was created by Environmental Systems Research Institute, Inc. (ESRI) and inspired by Ralph Nader.

National Educational Support Professionals Day – Celebrated on the Wednesday of the week before Thanksgiving, this is a day to honor everyone who provides services to schools. There are lots of people besides teachers and principals who are involved in making sure your children have a good education. These are the secretaries, custodians, bus drivers, cafeteria workers, monitors, teacher aides and probably many others depending on the school you are part of.
