World Religion Day – Celebrated on the third Sunday in January, this is a day to acknowledge all of the many, many different religions in the world. Whatever you believe, I’m absolutely certain you can find a religious establishment of some sort, somewhere, that will help you grow in that belief.
World Day of Migrants and Refugees - The theme for this year’s celebration is “Child Migrants, the Vulnerable and the Voiceless.” It was chosen by Pope Francis in order to highlight the epidemic of migrants and refugees who are children, especially the ones who are alone with no families to love them, and the treatment that they must endure by the world. They are ignored, starved, beaten and worse because people forget that migrants and refugees are people too. They deserve the same consideration you would give your next door neighbor because they are everyone’s neighbors. This day is celebrated on the third Sunday of January.
World Snow Day - This is a day to “Bring Children to the Snow”, a campaign that the Federation Internationale de Ski (FIS) has been engaged in for several years. They want to motivate children between the ages of 4 and 14 to get out into the snow and discover how much fun it can be. They want children to “Explore, Enjoy and Experience” all that snow fun has to offer. While they desire to increase their profits, they also want to teach children about the importance of snow to the environment, promote the health benefits of snow sports, and make sure children know how to behave and be safe while on and off the snow. This day is celebrated on the third Sunday in January.
National Fresh Squeezed Juice Day - I’m not sure who created this day or why, but I have to assume that whoever it was really likes fresh squeezed juice. So if you have a juicer, you’re all set. If not, I hope your hands are up for the challenge. What can you squeeze juice out of besides oranges and grapefruits?
National Strawberry Ice Cream Day – My son's favorite ice cream! I guess I'll just have to get him some. Truth be told, it’s one of my favorites as well.
National Hat Day – This is a day to celebrate hats of all kinds. Get your favorite hat out of the closet and show it off today, although you might want to brush off the cobwebs first, it's not Spooky Hat Day after all.
Humanitarian Day – Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday and the first of three Emancipation Days of Respect which honor the memory of Martin Luther King by promoting respect, unity and remembrance.
Wikipedia Day - On this day in 2001, Wikipedia went public. It went from zero to 20,000 English articles in just one year. The next year they added almost 80,000 more. Many people thought it wouldn’t last because of the fact that anyone can go in and update information. But they are even more popular today and show no sign of slowing down.
