Today we celebrate:

National Spumoni Day – Spumoni is Italian ice cream that is made with layers of different colors and flavors. It frequently has nuts and/or candied fruits mixed in as well. I've never tried it, but I'm certainly willing if I could just find a place that serves it.

Poet's Day – This is a day to honor your favorite poets. A talented poet can express powerful emotions with words and make the rest of us cry, laugh, or really think about a subject in a new way. We all have a bit of a poet inside us, so today is a day to either bring out your inner poet, or enjoy some poetry created by others.

Senior Citizen's Day – This is a day to honor the seniors of our society. This day was created in 1988 by President Ronald Reagan who was attempting to change the way we look at our elders. We need to remember that our elders have a great deal of life experience and wisdom that we can benefit from if we only open up our minds and hearts and recognize that they are still contributing members of society.

Cupcake Day – This is a delicious day that was created by the RSPCA (The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) in Australia to celebrate cupcakes and animals. It can be celebrated on the third Monday in August by making, eating, smelling or even just looking at cupcakes and by helping an animal in need in some manner.

Stay Home with your Kids Day - Created by Jennifer Stewart in 1997 this is a day to take one day and stay home with your kids. You can work from home or just take the whole day off if you want to. I was a stay at home mom for many years and found it very rewarding, but I think we all realize that not everyone can afford to or wants to do that. You have to make the decisions that are right for you and for your family, whatever they are. But if you have chosen to stay home with the kids, this is a day to encourage you and support your decision. This is celebrated on the 3rd Monday of August.
