Today we celebrate:

National Eggs Benedict Day – An English muffin topped with ham or bacon, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. It sounds pretty delicious to me, but if you have a different way of making your Eggs Benedict, feel free to change it up. I couldn't determine which Benedict these eggs were named after, every Benedict in history seems to have some sort of story attached to them whereby they claim credit.

National Baked Ham With Pineapple Day – Well, I hope you didn't eat too much ham yesterday because you're having more today. This time you can put pineapple with it, though, so that will change it up for you.

National Librarian Day, National Library Day, National Library Workers Day – No matter what you call it, this is a day devoted to honoring Libraries of all kinds and anyone who works in them. We depend upon our libraries for help with all kinds of issues whether we need access to computers or information or help with a school project. Our libraries are there for us.

National Health Care Decisions Day – This is a day to educate and inspire you to make your health care decisions BEFORE you are in dire need because of an emergency. You need to plan ahead, people, because no one leaves their house in the morning thinking that this is the day I'm going to have an accident and end up in the hospital before nightfall.

One Day Without Shoes Day – This is a day to raise awareness of children's health and education issues by going barefoot. I'm really not sure how going barefoot raises awareness of anything but foot health issues, but that's just me. Maybe your feet end up hurting so much it inspires you to feel badly for sick and uneducated children everywhere. Or maybe it's because children with serious health and education issues are generally found in very poor areas where they cannot afford shoes.

World Voice Day – Today is a day to celebrate our voices, without which it would be far more difficult to communicate on a daily basis, especially when we are in trouble and need to call for help. We love voices so much we pay some people, with really great sounding voices, millions of dollars just so that we can listen to them lift their voices in song.

National Wear Your Pajamas To Work Day – Some sites claim that this day is supposed to be celebrated on April 18th, but the most reliable that I could find say it is celebrated today, the day after taxes are due so you can have a day to decompress after all the stress of doing your taxes. So don't worry about picking out just the right outfit today and just stay in your pajamas. As long as you are decently covered. Just saying what needs to be said.

To celebrate today keep your shoes in the closet, you won't need them today. You won't need work clothes either so stay in your pajamas. For breakfast have some Eggs Benedict, made the way you like them. Then its off to work you go. Instead of speaking to people, you should sing your conversations with your co-workers. After work is over, (assuming you haven't been sent to the psychiatric wing of the hospital) head to the library to research the health care decisions you need to make today. Finally, finish up the day with some delicious baked ham with pineapple for dinner.

Today we celebrate:

Take A Wild Guess Day – This is a day for making guesses, following your gut, trusting your intuition. Go ahead and try it!

National Glazed Ham Day – Make sure you have enough time to bake one of these today because this is dinner.

Boston Marathon – I adore exercise in most forms but despise running. I won't even run to the mailbox. So I have great respect for people who are fit enough to run a marathon. You have to train a long time to get ready for one of those. Good luck to all the participants today.

Rubber Eraser Day – This is a day for people who are prone to making mistakes. Where would we be without erasers to help us fix them?

Income Tax Pay Day – All right American people, if you haven't filed your taxes yet, today is the last day to do so. Get busy with it so you can avoid penalties.

Titanic Remembrance Day – Today we remember the victims of the Titanic which struck an iceberg on April 14th at 11:40pm and sank on the 15th in the year 1912.

That Sucks Day – I'm not a fan of bad language and I contemplated changing the name to That Stinks Day, but then I would be giving you false information so I'm bearing with it in the spirit of the day. This is a day for wallowing in misery and not seeing the good in anything. This is not a state of being that I am comfortable with, I prefer to be positive, but I guess that will have to wait until tomorrow. It is a bit ironic that this day falls on the same day as Titanic Remembrance Day.

McDonald's Day – On this day in 1955, the first McDonald's franchise opened in Des Plaines, Illinois. While it is not known as the healthiest place to eat, if you want to eat healthy you can choose to do so and have one of their salads, which are not bad.

Patriot's Day – Always on the third Monday of April, this day commemorates the Battles of Lexington and Concord, which were the first battles of the Revolutionary War. Re-enactments are performed in Lexington and Concord on this day every year.

To celebrate today head to Boston to either run in the marathon or cheer on those who are running, then have some lunch at McDonald's before you head to Lexington to participate in the re-enactment going on there. If you don't know how to get there, just take a wild guess, you'll get there eventually. If you get lost, well that stinks for you. After that, head to Mystic Connecticut to the Aquarium because they have a great Titanic exhibit. Finally, head home to finish doing your taxes so you can get them to the Post Office by midnight. Make sure that if you write them out on paper, use a pencil first so you can erase all of your mistakes.

Today we celebrate:

National Grump People's Day – Today is a day to get your inner grumpiness out and revel in it. Complain about everything that is wrong with our society today, you know you want to and now is your chance.

National Pecan Day – You've heard of pecan pie, but there are many other things you probably don't know about pecans such as the fact that pecans are full of antioxidants. Check out this site to find out: http://www.nationalpecanday.com/

Ex Spouse Day – There are a lot of divorces going around these days, and it's not something that you usually celebrate. However, if you are divorced for a good reason, it is an excellent thing to celebrate and celebrate you should today. Have a party! Live it up! Good riddance to the ex!

International Moment Of Laughter Day – Created by Izzy Gezell, this is a day to acknowledge the power that laughter holds. There really is no stronger medicine.

Look Up At The Sky Day – How often do we just go about our business and not pay attention to what is going on around us? Well, today, instead of stopping to smell the roses, stop and look at the sky. What is going on up there today? Is there a beautiful sunrise or sunset? Are there clouds in interesting shapes? Is it going to rain?

Reach As High As You Can Day – Today is a day to strive to go as far and as high as you can with whatever you are trying to do, whether you are trying to reach the cookie jar on top of the refrigerator or trying to get that promotion at work.

Children With Alopecia Day – This is a disease in which the immune system attacks the hair follicles, causing hair to fall out. While it helps sufferers to save a great deal of money on hair cuts, it is also a disease that affects children's self-esteem as many of them are teased about it. I have even heard of children being isolated and ostracized because other children were afraid that it would be contagious. Find out more here: http://childrensalopeciaproject.org/

Pan American Day – Celebrated every year on this day as a “commemorative symbol of the American nations and the voluntary union of all in one continental community”. This union was established on this day in 1890. On May 7, 1930, this day was adopted by the Governing Board of the Pan American union in official legal language with all the requisite whereas's and pursuant to's included. It's all here if you want to see it: http://www.oas.org/columbus/PanAmericanDay.asp

To celebrate today, complain frequently about your ex spouse or ex boyfriend/girlfriend and laugh about their silly habits that made you crazy. Then sit under the skies and share some pecan pie with a kid in your neighborhood that has alopecia while you work together to make construction paper flags of all the American countries, strive to do your very best to make them as realistic as possible. Keep an eye on the clouds to see if you see any interesting shapes.

Today we celebrate:

National Peach Cobbler Day – That's just peachy! I love peaches but I don't get them very often because they always go bad so fast. Maybe I'll try again so I can make some delicious cobbler today.

Scrabble Day – On this day in 1899, Alfred Mosher Butts was born. Why is this significant, you ask? Well, without Mr. Butts, there would be no Scrabble game. So find your board that the kids buried in the closet or toy chest (Come on, you know you have one somewhere, everyone does!) and dust it off and show your kids how it's done.

Thomas Jefferson Day – This father of our country was born on this day in 1743. I know he was a slave owner and I can't respect him for that. However, he was also a man who did great things for this country and I can't help but respect him for that. http://www.monticello.org/site/jefferson/brief-biography-thomas-jefferson

Baby Massage Day – Always on the second Saturday in April, this is a day to learn how to massage your baby. If you do it right, and your baby doesn't have sensory issues that make it painful, this is a great technique to relax your baby especially before they go to bed. I've also heard that it can help with colic, but I can't swear to that. Only one of my children had colic symptoms, but it turned out to be a temporary lactose intolerance problem, so massage didn't help.

To celebrate today, have some peach cobbler with your kids while you play a rousing game of scrabble with each of them, as always feel free to borrow mine if you don't have any of your own. Handicap yourself by only using words that Thomas Jefferson would have used. Finish up the day by giving your baby (or a borrowed baby if you don't happen to have one yourself) a lovely, relaxing massage.
