Today we celebrate:

National Video Games Day – This is a day to celebrate the creation of the video game. They are enormously popular in every house with children and even a whole lot of houses without any children. Play video games all day today.

National Chocolate Milkshake Day – My children love milkshakes and particularly chocolate ones. Have one for yourself today.

International Day for South-South Cooperation – This is a day created by the General Assembly of the United Nations. In 2003 it was declared to be celebrated on the 19^th of December but in 2011 the General Assembly changed the date to today. The purpose of the day is to promote cooperation between countries in the southern hemisphere. This is to support developing countries as well as countries that are fighting against depressed economies.

To celebrate today, call any friends you have in the southern hemisphere and encourage them to support their fellow southern countries. Then play video games while you drink milkshakes.

Today we celebrate:

National Hot Cross Bun Day – These delicious buns were usually eaten only on Good Friday but these days you can have them any time of year.

Make Your Bed Day – This is a great day! I really like this one. I think I'll print out this blog and post it on my children's bedroom doors.

No News Is Good News Day – This is my mantra whenever my children are away from me and I start to worry about them for no reason whatsoever. I remind myself that if something goes wrong, I'll get a phone call or something. You should remind yourself of that today as well.

Odd Day – With a date like 9-11-13, this is considered to be an “odd” day. The last odd day was 7-9-11 and the next one will be 11-13-15. After that, I don't think there will be another one for a very long time.

Libraries Remember Day – On this day, Libraries commemorate the tragedies of September 11, 2001. The Bensenville Community Public Library in Illinois remembers by staying open for the entire 24 hours of this day. Check with your local library to see if they have any special commemoration events going on.

National Day of Service and Remembrance (Patriot Day)– This is a day to remember and honor those who died on this day in 2001 by doing whatever you can to help others in need. It isn't hard to find community service projects that need your help. Seek them out and keep those who were lost in mind while you do.

To celebrate today, make your bed when you get up, mark your calendar and circle this special odd day, then go to your Library and ask them for help finding a community service project that is just waiting for your special talents. Lastly, have a hot cross bun while you listen to the silence of your phone that is not delivering any bad news, therefore you have nothing but good news at present.

Today we celebrate:

Sewing Machine Day – Also celebrated on June 13^th, this is a day to use your sewing machine to make some new clothes for yourself and your family. Elias Howe received a patent for his sewing machine on this day in 1846.

Swap Ideas Day – This is a day for an open idea exchange. Swap your ideas with everyone you meet today, the only rule is that you must be open minded and not get into a fight just because someone might disagree with you or hold an idea that you find repugnant.

World Suicide Prevention Day – This is a day to do whatever you can to prevent suicides from happening. There are warning signs, find out what they are and spread the information around. If more people are able to recognize when someone might be headed down a suicidal path, there is a greater chance of diverting them to a more positive place.

To celebrate today, grab your sewing machine, and head to a friend's house to swap ideas while you sew. While you are there, check your friend over very carefully for suicidal tendencies.

Today we celebrate:

Teddy Bear Day – This is a day for kids and collectors alike. Everyone loves teddy bears, even if they are too manly to admit it.

Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders Day – This is a day to spread awareness of the dangers of fetal alcohol syndrome and how easy it is to avoid it. Simply don't drink alcohol while you are pregnant. This syndrome includes a wide variety of physical and mental disabilities as well as emotional and behavioral problems. It also comes with a whole lot of guilt because it is so preventable.

National Boss/Employee Exchange Day – Celebrated on the Monday after Labor Day, this is a day to help you get along with your boss or get along with your employees, if you are the boss. The idea today is to share each other's point of view for a day. I have received no guidance on how to accomplish this seemingly monumental task, but I have faith that you will figure it out.

To celebrate today, grab your teddy bear, put down the wine glass (if you are pregnant) and head to your boss's office to exchange points of view.
