National Pig Day – started in 1972 by
sisters Ellen Stanley and Mary Lynne Rave. According to Rave, the
purpose is to “accord the pig its rightful, though generally
unrecognized, place as one of man's most intellectual and
domesticated animals.” I have heard that pigs make great pets and
they are cute but I'm not sure I could have one in the house.
National Peanut Butter Lover's Day –
We all know about President Jimmy Carter, but did you know that
President Thomas Jefferson was also a peanut farmer? This web site

National Fruit Compote Day – I know
you're thinking what I was thinking, “What is compote?” Well, I
have the answer for you. Compote is the French word for “mixture”.
So fruit compote is a mixture of fruit and syrup. Sounds good to
me, I think this is going to be dessert tonight.
Asiatic Fleet Memorial Day – On this
day in 1942, the American Cruiser Houston, the Australian Cruiser
Perth and the British Cruiser Exeter were outnumbered and outgunned
by the Japanese. But they fought bravely and went down with their
guns blazing in the Sunda Strait.
Employee Appreciation Day – The first
Friday in March, this day was begun in 1995 by Workman Publishing in
order to focus attention on all employees in every industry.
National Horse Protection Day – My
daughter's favorite animal, the horse has brought this country to
where it is today. Without this amazing creature, people would have
had great difficulty traveling anywhere before the invention of
automobiles. Sadly, not everyone in this country who owns a horse,
should own a horse as far too many of them suffer from neglect or
mistreatment.
Peace Corps Day – On this day in
1961, President Kennedy established the Peace Corp. The purpose of
which was to send trained American men and women into foreign nations
to help them develop.
Plan A Solo Vacation Day – Why wait
until your family has time to go somewhere together. Get away by
yourself and recharge for a few days.
Refired, Not Retired Day – Retirement
isn't the end of an era, it's the beginning of a new one! The
retired people I know are even busier than they were when they worked
for a living. But now they are busy with things they WANT to do
instead of things they HAVE to do. So fire up your enthusiasm for a
new life.
World Compliment Day – Begun in the
Netherlands as National Compliment Day, there is a movement afoot to
spread the positivity of this day around the world. Find something
in everyone you meet to compliment today.
World Day Of Prayer – The first
Friday of March, this day is a day to bring together Christian women
of all different races, traditions and cultures. The goal is to
become closer in fellowship and actions. This year, France is the

NEA's Read Across America Day – This
day is usually celebrated on March 2nd which is Dr. Seuss'
birthday, and many people have proclaimed it to be celebrated on
March 2nd this year as well. I can only assume that the
rest of the people say it's on March 1st this year because
the 1st is a Friday and teachers want to celebrate with

To celebrate this busy day you have
your work cut out for you. First, I bet you think I'm going to tell
you to fly to France in order to pray, but you're in luck, you can
pray right where you are. You do have to wear something blue today,
then race over to your children's school and read some books to some
of the classes (if you're a homeschooler, you are lucky you don't
have to go far.), then offer a compliment to your child's teacher
(even if it's you), and head home to call up and join the Peace Corps
for your solo vacation while you eat a peanut butter and jelly
sandwich and some fruit compote. Then you can seek out some fellow
employees and wish them a happy Appreciation Day while you distribute
pictures of pigs and horses seeking adoption into a loving home. You
can finish up your day by planning what you want to do upon your
retirement and reading about the Asiatic Fleet's heroic actions.
That is sure to bring you good dreams tonight.
