Today we celebrate:

Emma M. Nutt Day – Emma Mills Nutt was born sometime in 1860 and became the world's first female telephone operator on this day in 1878. She worked 54 hours a week for the Edwin Holmes Telephone Dispatch Company with a salary of $10 a month. The company began hiring women for this job because the boys they had been employing showed poor attitudes such as a lack of patience and pulling pranks and bad language. A few hours after Emma was hired, her sister Stella Nutt was also hired. The customer response was so overwhelmingly positive that more women were hired to replace the men.

Building and Code Staff Appreciation Day – These are the people who work hard to keep our buildings safe for us to work and live in. Show them some appreciation today instead of getting mad if they find some violations to the building code.

Calendar Adjustment Day –
In 1751, the British government passed the British Calendar Act of 1751. This meant that Britain and the American Colonies had to make the “Gregorian Correction” in 1752. The correction entailed the loss of 11 days. Life went as normal through Wednesday, September 2nd, 1752 but the very next day became Thursday, September 14th, 1752. This act also changed New Year's Day (and the number of the year) from March 25th to January 1,1752 and every year after that. This caused the year 1751 to have only 282 days.

Chicken Boy's Day –
Today we celebrate the birthday of a giant statue of a person with a chicken head that used to stand on top of a fried chicken restaurant in Los Angeles from the 1960's until 1984. It was then given to Amy Inouye, an art director who kept it in storage until she found the right place for it. In 2007, it was moved to the top of her art studio in Highland Park, Los Angeles.

International Day of Awareness for the Dolphins of Taiji –
Apparently in Taiji, Japan, they have dolphin hunts. This is a day to remember the dolphins that have been killed in these hunts, as well as the ones who will be killed in the future as they are still ongoing.

National No Rhyme (Nor Reason) Day –
This is a day to celebrate words that do not rhyme with any other words in the English language like “purple”. Words like these are completely unique and therefore more creative on the part of the people who came up with them.

Toy Tips Executive Toy Test Day
– This is an annual day celebrated in New York City where the senior executives of different companies get to gather together to play with toys. Well, they call it testing the toys, but we all know that it is really just playing. They are supposedly learning how to incorporate creativity into their workplaces.

To celebrate today, call a telephone operator, if you can find one, and thank her for her hard work in living up to Emma Nutt's example. Then ask her to find you a number for a Building and Code Staff person so you can thank them as well. Check your calendar to make sure today is still today and then dress up like Chicken Boy and go to Japan to protest the dolphin hunt. On the plane ride home make a list of all the words you can think of that do not rhyme with any other words and stop in NYC to join the executives “testing” the toys.

Today we celebrate:

National Trail Mix Day – Dried fruit, nuts and sometimes bits of chocolate make up this protein filled snack.

Eat Outside Day – I hope it's not raining where you live today because it is a day to take your meal outside to eat among nature. Enjoy the chirping of the birds, the breeze, fresh air and bugs.

Franchise Appreciation Day – Celebrated on the Saturday before Labor Day, this is a day to support local franchises. Franchises make up quite a number of small businesses in your area and some of them might have some celebratory activities today. http://www.franchiseappreciationday.com/

Love Litigating Lawyers Day
– Everyone loves to make fun of lawyers, but the fact is that we live in a litigious society and we need lawyers from time to time to be on our side. They are also very helpful when it is time to make a will, buy a house, have a divorce or make a contract of any kind.

To celebrate today, visit a local franchise and buy some trail mix. Then go visit your local lawyer and share your trail mix with him/her outside.

August 30, 2013

Today we celebrate:

National Toasted Marshmallow Day – Who hasn't had toasted marshmallows over a campfire? There is nothing on this world that tastes even remotely that good.

National Holistic Pet Day – More and more people are moving toward a holistic lifestyle, but we don't always think of our pets. You can put your pets on an organic, green, and healthy lifestyle as well. Look into what that would entail today.

Frankenstein Day – This is a day to celebrate the life and creativity of Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, the author of Frankenstein. She was born on this day in 1797 and although she wrote other books, she is best known for this famous monster.

International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances – There have been times throughout history, as well as the present time, when governments have caused people to disappear. They are arrested, or abducted, by the state or people acting on behalf of the state, who will then deny having taken that person or knowing anything about their fate. This clearly violates any number of human rights, but many governments in the world don't care about human rights.

To celebrate today, pray for those people who have disappeared at the hands of governments around the world before you head out to a pet food store to look for some organic food for your pet. Then tonight, have a campfire and toast some marshmallows while you read Frankenstein.

August 29, 2013

Today we celebrate:

According to Hoyle Day – On this day in 1769, Edmond Hoyle died. Mr. Hoyle was an Englishman who was the first to publish a book of rules for the game of Whist. He went on to publish other books with rules for other games like chess and backgammon to name just a few. He became known as the authority for game rules of all kinds and the phrase, “according to Hoyle” was used to indicate the right way to play and even eventually the right way to do anything.

Lemon Juice Day – Lemon juice has so many different uses from drinking to cooking to skin care to cleaning your house. You name it and you can probably find a way to utilize lemon juice for it.

Marine Corps Reserve Birthday – The mission of the Marine Corps Reserve is a good one. The provide reinforcements for the active Marine forces whenever needed. They are called during wars, national emergencies and for a host of other reasons. They are also very involved in community events such as Toys for Tots at Christmastime. They were established by Congress on this day in 1916. Most of the time, unless they have been called for duty, Marines in the reserve units have training on one weekend a month and two weeks a year to keep up their skills so that they are ready when they are needed.

Individual Rights Day –
On this day in 1632, John Locke was born. He was a popular philosopher who argued that humans had basic rights simply because they were human and the government's job was to protect those rights and not enslave it's citizens with laws that took their rights away.

International Day Against Nuclear Tests –
Declared by the United Nations General Assembly in 2009, this is a day to increase awareness and education “about the effects of nuclear weapon test explosions or any other nuclear explosions and the need for their cessation as one of the means of achieving the goal of a nuclear-weapon-free world.”

More Herbs, Less Salt Day – This is a day to focus on how healthy you are eating. If you have a tendency to put salt on your food, try using some interesting herbs instead.

Chop Suey Day – This is a day to head to a good Chinese restaurant near you and enjoy some chop suey. It's a stir fry with eggs, meat, and vegetables and usually some rice or noodles.

National Sarcoidosis Awareness Day –
President George Bush proclaimed this day in 1991 to increase awareness of the disease and to support those suffering from it and those who are working to find a cure. Doctors are not yet sure, but it seems likely that Sarcoidosis is caused by a virus. They do know that it is an immune system disorder and some people can recover with few symptoms while others get very sick. It mostly attacks the lungs although it can attack other organs as well. http://www.nationalsarcoidosisfriends.org/

To celebrate today, make some lemonade using lemon juice and and play a fun game of backgammon with your friends, making sure you follow Hoyle's rules. Then teach your children all about their rights as humans before you head down to the Marine recruitment office to enlist in the Marine Reserves. Next, write a letter to someone in your government to let them know where you stand on the nuclear testing issue. Have some chop suey for lunch and tell your friends about the symptoms of sarcoidosis so if any of them have it, they can get treated quickly. Make sure you use lots of herbs instead of salt when you make dinner tonight.

August 28, 2013

Today we celebrate:

National Cherry Turnovers Day – Cherry is not my favorite flavor of turnover. I prefer apple, but whoever decides these things didn't ask me before they chose this day.

Dream Day Quest and Jubilee – This is the anniversary of MLK's "I Have A Dream" speech. The third of three Emancipation Days of Respect which honor the memory of Martin Luther King by promoting respect, unity and remembrance.

Radio Commercials Day –
On this day in 1922, WEAF of New York sold the first radio commercial spot. This revolutionized the broadcasting world because prior to this, radio stations all over were trying to figure out how to make radio a sustainable enterprise. There were other radio stations that made financial deals with businesses that involved sponsoring a weekly program in exchange for being mentioned now and then, but they weren't official commercials.

To celebrate today, listen to the radio and pay attention to the commercials instead of just tuning them out like I usually do, while you eat cherry turnovers and draft your own “I Have A Dream” speech.

August 27, 2013

To celebrate today,

National Pots de Creme Day – Pots de Creme (pronounced poh-deh-krem) is French for “pot of cream.” It is a custard that is heavier than you are probably used to and is baked in a small, single serving pot or ramekin. They can be vanilla or chocolate and they look delicious.

Banana Lover's Day – I love bananas and have one nearly every day in my cereal in the morning. How do you feel about them?

Lyndon Baines Johnson Day – This is a state holiday in Texas to honor President Lyndon Baines Johnson who was born on this day in 1908.

The Duchess Who Wasn't Day
– You have probably heard the quote, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” Who hasn't. But you may not know who said it. It comes from a novel I had never heard of, Molly Bawn, which was written by Margaret Wolfe Hungerford who used a pseudonym, “The Dutchess”, which was also the title of her most popular book. She was born in Ireland on this day in 1850 and died in 1897.

To celebrate today, find a copy of Molly Bawn and read it and make sure you use that famous quote at least once or twice today. Also read a biography on Lyndon B. Johnson while you enjoy some Pots de Creme and a banana.

August 26, 2013

Today we celebrate:

National Cherry Popsicle Day – Not any old popsicles mind you. Just the cherry ones.

National Dog Day – Established in 2004, this is a day to recognize the fact that incredible numbers of dogs need to be rescued either from a bad living environment or from being on the streets trying to scrounge for food. Beyond that there are all of the well loved family dogs and working dogs that make people's lives easier or safer as well as the ones who simply make us feel better. http://www.nationaldogday.com/

Women's Equality Day
– On this day in 1920, the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution was passed and women were granted the right to vote. In 1971, Bella Abzug introduced legislation to Congress for Women's Equality Day. Since then, every year each president has proclaimed this celebration day. It is a day to recognize that women have been treated as second class citizens in the past but with the passage of the 19th Amendment, that has begun to change as we work toward the goal of complete equality.

To celebrate today, go out and find a dog that needs to be rescued and rescue it, possibly by adopting it if you can. Then you can share some cherry popsicles with your female friends and family to congratulate them for gaining the equality that they have achieved so far. Discuss with them what they think still needs to be done before everyone is equal.

August 25, 2013

Today we celebrate:

National Banana Split Day – I prefer the ice cream without the bananas, but banana splits have been around for a long time so I guess there must be quite a demand for them.

Founders Day – On this day in 1916, President Woodrow Wilson signed the Organic Act which was basically a mission statement for the National Park Service that had also just been created. There are probably some celebratory activities going on in the National Park near you.

Go Topless Day – This is a day that is celebrated on the Sunday closest to Women's Equality Day, which is tomorrow. It is all about the “if men can do it, women can too” premise. I believe that to a certain degree, but I have no desire to prove it by going topless. I don't particularly care that men can go topless, I just think that means they have more surface area to put sunscreen on and frankly, I don't have that kind of time. If you do, there are many cities throughout the nation that will be having Go Topless Day protests, feel free to join in. http://gotopless.org/gotopless-day

Kiss and Make Up Day – On this day, give up all your grudges and arguments and squabbles. It is time to kiss and make up with whomever you are upset with whether it's your spouse or your sibling or a friend or that person who is driving so darn slow in front of you and making you late for work.

National Second-hand Wardrobe Day –
This is a day for recycling clothes. Clothes do not have to be purchased brand new to be worn by you or your kids. You can get some great deals at thrift shops, consignment shops and second-hand stores. You can also hand clothes down from kid to kid and even give them to friends for their kids. Use them until they cannot be used anymore before you throw them away.

National Whiskey Sour Day
– Celebrated by most on this day, but some celebrate on the 29th of August. There is a video at this sight to tell you how to make one. http://www.nationalwhiskeysourday.com/

To celebrate today, go topless in the privacy of your bedroom while you are making your bed and getting ready for the day. If you are adventurous, feel free to do more than that. Then, get dressed in your second hand clothes and head to the park for some Founders Day fun. When you get home, kiss whomever you need to kiss to make up from whatever argument you had most recently and share a whiskey sour (hold the whiskey if you are underage) and a banana split.

August 24, 2013

Today we celebrate:

National Peach Pie Day – A couple of days ago we had National Eat A Peach Day and could eat peaches in any form we wished. Well, today is also for peaches, but today you must eat them in a pie. I mean the peaches have to be in the pie, not you. Although if you are ambitious enough to make a person sized pie, I say have at it and make sure you send me a picture.

Pluto Demoted Day – On this day in 2006, Pluto was demoted. It is no longer considered a planet and instead is considered by scientists to be a “dwarf planet”. It was a sad, sad day for all of us.

Vesuvius Day –
On this day in 79A.D., Mount Vesuvius, in Southern Italy, awoke from it's centuries long sleep and erupted causing the devastation of Pompeii and Herculaneum and killed thousands of people. The ones who evacuated immediately survived, but approximately 2,000 people hid in cellars and buildings hoping the volcano would stop and leave them be. They died in the toxic cloud that descended upon them and were buried when the flow of rock and ash followed. Today some 700,000 people live around Mt. Vesuvius which hasn't had a major eruption in about 400 years. I'm not sure that location would be my choice for a retirement home.

William Wilberforce Day –
Born on this day in 1759, William Wilberforce was a politician, philanthropist and one of the leaders of the abolitionist movement who worked tirelessly to put an end to the British slave trade for twenty six years. When the Slave Trade Act of 1807 was passed, abolishing the slave trade, he began working to abolish slavery completely in the British Empire. He died three days after he was sure the Slavery Abolition Act of 1833 was going to pass.

National Waffle Day –
Back in March, we had International Waffle Day, but this day is just for the United States of America because we love our waffles so much that we really don't want to share them this time.

International Bat Night – Created by an organization called EUROBATS, this day is celebrated by more than 30 countries with bat walks, presentations, exhibitions and generally a lot of love for bats.

To celebrate today, have some waffles for breakfast while you contemplate how different the world would be without dedicated people like William Wilberforce in it. Then have waffles for lunch while you search the internet for pictures from the excavations of Pompeii and Herculaneum which have been ongoing for a couple of hundred years. Finally, have waffles and peach pie for dinner while you watch the bats come out after sunset. When it is totally dark, get your telescope out and see if you can find Pluto.

August 23, 2013

Today we celebrate:

National Spongecake Day – This is a day to make a fluffy, spongy cake today. I like to eat cake like this with strawberries and whipped cream, but there are a multitude of other options out there.

Day For The Remembrance Of The Slave Trade & Its Abolition – Created by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), this is a day to remember the inhumanity of the transatlantic slave trade. This day was chosen because on this day in 1791, a revolt began on Haiti which set in motion events that eventually culminated in the abolition of the transatlantic slave trade. Something that was certainly a step in the right direction.

Valentino Day – On this day in 1926, Rudolph Valentino, an enormously popular star of the silent-screen died because of a ruptured ulcer at the very young age of 31 years old. He was Hollywood's first sex symbol and was idolized by millions of female fans.

To celebrate today, eat spongecake while you watch one of Valentino's silent-screen movies. Then read a book about the transatlantic slave trade. I'm sure there are many out there, but if you can't find one that interests you, I recommend Alexander Haley's book, Roots: The Saga of an American Family.

August 22, 2013

Today we celebrate:

National Eat A Peach Day – Today is a day to eat a peach. If you have access to a peach tree, they are best right off the tree. Otherwise, a farmer's market is your next best option. If you can get a few and make them into a dessert, that is better still.

National Take Your Cat To The Vet Day – This is the day to take your cat to the vet for a visit. It doesn't matter if you have an appointment, they'll be happy to see you just to say hello to your wonderful cat and your cat will appreciate not having to have any shots or unpleasantness like that. Of course, if your cat needs an appointment, then it's the perfect day to make one.

National Tooth Fairy Day – Also celebrated on February 28th, this is a day to honor that magical woman who comes to your house in the middle of the night when everyone is asleep, sneaks into your children's bedrooms, and steals their teeth from under their pillows. If you think about it too much, it becomes creepy and you will want to upgrade your home security system. So don't think about it, just thank her for keeping your children happy with her little gifts.

Be An Angel Day
– On this day we need to do our best to be an angel for somebody or even many somebodies if you are ambitious. Random acts of kindness; helpfulness in all things; going out of your way to make someone feel special; these are only some of the ways you can be an angel today.

To celebrate today, take your cat to the vet for a visit so she/he can see that the good doctors are not all bad all the time. Then you can be an angel by making a peach cobbler for someone who needs a little mood lift and taking it to them. Maybe you can even mow their lawn while you are there. Finally, leave a gift for the Tooth Fairy along with your child's tooth under his/her pillow tonight.

August 21, 2013

Today we celebrate:

National Pecan Torte Day – Although torte means cake in some languages, torte is actually more dense than a traditional cake. In a pecan torte you use ground up pecans instead of flour. Try making one today to see how different it is from the pecan pie you made yesterday.

National Spumoni Day – Spumoni is Italian ice cream that is made with layers of different colors and flavors. It frequently has nuts and/or candied fruits mixed in as well. I've never tried it, but I'm certainly willing.

Earth Over Shoot Day or Ecological Debt Day – This day marks the time each year when humanity has begun using resources beyond the Earth's ability to regenerate those resources in a given year. This highlights the gap between what the Earth can provide and what humans desire to have. It would be better if this day came later in the year, but unfortunately in the mid-1970's, human consumption started outpacing the Earth's ability to keep up.

National Medical Dosimetrist Day – Celebrated on the third Wednesday in August, this is a day to recognize the importance of medical dosimetry professionals to our lives. If you have lived with cancer treatments either for yourself or for a loved one then you might know that medical dosimetrists work with the radiation oncologist team. They generate radiation dose distributions in collaboration with the rest of the team.

Poet's Day –
This is a day to honor your favorite poets. A talented poet can express powerful emotions with words and make the rest of us cry, laugh, or really think.

Senior Citizen's Day
– This is a day to honor the seniors of our society. This day was created in 1988 by President Ronald Reagan who was attempting to change the way we look at our elders. We need to remember that our elders have a great deal of life experience and wisdom that we can benefit from if we only open up our minds and hearts and recognize that they are still contributing members of society.

To celebrate today, make a plan for how you can reduce your reliance on Earth's natural resources. Then make a pecan torte and take it to your local medical dosimetrist's office to share with them. Next, stop at a local senior center and read a selection of your favorite poems to them. Then ask them what they thought of the poet's ideas.

August 20, 2013

Today we celebrate:

National Chocolate Pecan Pie Day – This is a new one for me. I didn't know you could make chocolate pecan pie. I bet it's pretty good but probably too sweet for me.

National Lemonade Day – This day is all about teaching young people how to begin and operate their own business of selling lemonade from a lemonade stand. They will learn a lot about business doing something like that.

National Radio Day – This day celebrates the invention of the radio. Many people contributed to the various evolutions that the radio has gone through over the years. The first transmission of a signal using electromagnetic waves happened around 1880. The technology just got better from there.

To celebrate today, have some chocolate pecan pie and lemonade while you listen to your favorite radio station.

August 19, 2013

Today we celebrate:

National Soft Ice Cream Day – Soft ice cream is the best. I absolutely love it and cannot turn it down no matter how much I should since it's made with dairy and I'm allergic. For this dish, I'll accept the consequences.

National Aviation Day – Established by Presidential Proclamation from President Franklin D. Roosevelt, this is a day to celebrate the development of aviation. This day was chosen because it is Orville Wright's birthday. He was born in 1871 and was still alive when the proclamation was made.

Potato Day – This is a day to celebrate the potato. My daughters would prefer to miss this day since they don't care for potatoes, but they are not cooking dinner tonight, I am. I think I'll make homemade french fries.

"Black Cow" Root Beer Float Day –
The root beer float is made with root beer and vanilla ice cream and ends up a light brown color. However, if you make it with chocolate ice cream, it is not a traditional root beer float and so it is instead called a “black cow” root beer float, or in some areas, a “brown cow” root beer float. Drink up!

World Humanitarian Day – This is a day to honor humanitarians all over the world who have worked for a humanitarian cause. It particularly honors those who have died in the course of their humanitarian work. This is not the same as Humanitarian Day on which we celebrated on January 15th because this is a world wide day that was established by the General Assembly of the United Nations in 2008.

Cupcake Day – This is a delicious day that can be celebrated by making, eating, smelling or even just looking at cupcakes.

To celebrate today, Take an airplane ride to the country of your choice to visit with the humanitarians there to thank them for their hard work. Then, when you get home have some potatoes for dinner and then you can follow that up with a “black cow” root beer float, a cupcake and some soft ice cream.

August 18, 2013

Today we celebrate:

National Ice Cream Pie Day – Do you have a pie crust handy? Maybe some ice cream? Then you have all the makings for a ice cream pie. Soften the ice cream, spread it into the pie crust and refreeze. Delicious.

Long Tan Day – On this day in 1966, the First Australian Task Force (ATF) to Vietnam joined by a New Zealand unit prevailed over the Viet Cong forces in the Battle of Long Tan.

God's Preeminence Day
– Celebrated on the third Sunday of August, this is a day to pay tribute to God. Pray, meditate about God, and give all glory to God today.

Mail Order Catalog Day –
Montgomery Ward was the first company to make a mail order catalog on this day in 1872. It was only one page. It did well so they went crazy with it and by 1904 it weighed four pounds. They kept it going until 1985 but by then the idea had long been picked up by scores of other companies.

Serendipity Day –
This is a day “to live as though everything is a miracle...with the belief that at any moment, something wonderful is about to happen.” This is according to Madeleine Kay who is on a mission to encourage as many people as she can to look for serendipity and celebrate it. http://serendipityholiday.com/

(World) Daffodil Day – I didn't find any reliable information on this day and I'm not sure why Daffodil Day is in August since, at least where I live, the daffodils stopped blooming some time ago. But perhaps since this is a worldwide day, there are daffodils blooming somewhere. I hope so, they are one of my favorite flowers.

To celebrate today, spend some time this morning praying to God, then go out in the world and see if you can find some daffodils. Order something from a mail order catalog that will help you to celebrate life. Then have some ice cream pie while you read a book about the Battle of Long Tan.

August 17, 2013

Today we celebrate:

National Vanilla Custard Day – A dessert made with milk, eggs and sugar. Of those ingredients, the only one I can eat is the sugar so I guess I'll have to let my family celebrate this day without me.

International Geocaching Day – Geocaching is an activity where participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver to find containers called “geocaches” or “caches” hidden anywhere in the world. These caches can be any kind of container and usually contain a log book for the finder to sign and date and replace for the next geocacher to find. Sometimes they contain little trinkets or toys for the geocacher to take as a momento of the hunt.

International Homeless Animals Day – Celebrated on the third Saturday of August, this is a day to raise awareness about the problem of pet overpopulation. There are too many pets and not enough loving owners. Make sure you spay/neuter your pet so you don't add to the problem.

Meaning of "Is" Day – On this day in 1998, during grand jury hearings attempting to figure out President Bill Clinton's relationship with Monica Lewinsky, President Clinton used semantics and double talk to try to squeak his way out of trouble. His testimony was made public later that year and you can probably still find it on Youtube.

National Thrift Shop Day
– This is a day for bargain hunters and people who like to re-purpose other peoples used items. Thrift shops are a great place to find inexpensive but still perfectly good merchandise. You can also find retro items if that's your style. Go hunting for some treasures today.

To celebrate today, get your pet spayed or neutered, then go out on a geocaching hunt (bring the kids, they'll love it). Hit a thrift shop on the way home and employ your skills with semantics to talk the shop keeper into giving you an even better bargain than you would usually get there. Finally, finish up the day with some vanilla custard.

August 16, 2013

Today we celebrate:

Hug Your Boss Day – Generally celebrated on the third Friday of August, although some say it is to be celebrated on August 21st. This is a day to increase motivation and morale by loosening up a little and giving your boss a hug. Unless you think that it would not be welcome, in which case, don't do anything to jeopardize your job.

National Airborne Day – This is a day created by George W. Bush in 2001 and approved by the United States Congress. The purpose of today is to honor our nation's airborne branch of the Armed Forces. Airborne fighting tactics have been very important to the success of innumerable battles during every war since it's creation right after World War I.

Joe Miller's Joke Day – This is a day to tell a joke in celebration of Joseph Miller, an English comic actor born sometime in the year 1684. He died on this day in 1738. During his life, he was a popular actor at the Drury Lane Theatre in London.

National Rum Day – It's kind of appropriate that my oldest daughter is watching Pirates of the Caribbean as I write this since Captain Jack Sparrow loves rum so much. If you enjoy drinking it too, and you are 21 years of age or older, this is a day for you.

Men's Grooming Day –
Celebrated on the third Friday in August, this is a day that was created by American Crew, a company that makes men's grooming products. Some barbershops and salons participate in this day with special grooming related events for men.

To celebrate today, salute any airborne planes you see flying overhead today. If you see any planes flying overhead that are not airborne, run for your life. When you get to work, give your boss a hug to start the day off on a positive note. Then at lunch go to a barbershop for a grooming. At dinner tonight, toast Joe Miller with a rum drink and tell the family a joke.
