Deviled Egg Day – My family loves deviled eggs. They are not
even that bad for you, as snacks go. They are packed with protein,
after all. How bad could they be?
All
Souls Day – Follows
up All Saints Day by celebrating all of the faithful who have become
deceased but have not yet been purified and brought to Heaven.
Plan Your Epitaph Day – This is a day for you to decide what you want to have engraved on your headstone when you die. My husband did this many years ago when he was sick with the flu and sure he was going to die. He dictated enough stuff for his headstone that I would have had to have put up a pyramid in order to hold it all. He's still mad at me for not writing it down. “That's right, Honey, you're not going to die so I'm not writing this down. If it's that important, you can write it down yourself later.” Of course, once he got better he forgot everything he said. I think I will not be telling him about this day, he'll just get mad all over again.
Sadie Hawkins Day – Celebrated on the first Saturday in November, this is a role reversal day. It's roots were from a Li'l Abner comic strip, where Sadie Hawkins, a 35 year old spinster, had a father who arranged for a foot race where all eligible men were gathered and had to outrun Sadie. Whoever she caught and dragged across the finish line, had to marry her. Nowadays, it's just a role-reversal day. There are Sadie Hawkins dances where the girls ask the boys to go to the dance or the girls ask the boys out on a date. Have fun, Ladies.
Day
of the Dead – Dia de los Muertos is a Mexican holiday that
began yesterday evening and ends today. It is a day to celebrate and
remember family members who have died. They have festivals and
parades and really do it up big.
Look
for Circles Day – This is an interesting day. It is all about
looking for circles everywhere you go. What a way to keep the kids
occupied today.
To
celebrate today, feed your kids deviled eggs and send them out to
look for circles. Then have your girls invite their favorite guys to
a Sadie Hawkins Day of the Dead celebration at your house. One of
your party themes can be to hand out gravestones to everyone and have
everyone plan their own epitaphs. My husband will come. Before you
go to bed, pray for the souls who have not yet made it to Heaven.
