Today we celebrate:

Election Day – This is the day set aside for the general elections of public officials. It is the day after the first Monday in November. Federal elections only occur on even-numbered years but state and local elections happen for something every year.

Gunpowder Day, also known as Guy Fawkes Night or Bonfire Night or Fireworks Night – Celebrated mostly in Great Britain, this is a day that remembers the events that occurred on this day in 1605. Way back then, Guy Fawkes, who was a member of the Gunpowder Plot, was arrested while he was guarding the explosives that members of his group set up under the House of Lords. The whole city of London celebrated the fact that King James I survived the assassination attempt and they lit bonfires all over
the city.

To celebrate today, go vote for your elected officials and have a bonfire in a safe location.
