Today we celebrate:

Annual Medical Checkup Day - I couldn’t find much information about this day. It appears to be a day that is all about making an appointment to get your annual medical checkup. It’s important to see the doctor even when you are not sick, so that the doctor can look to see if there are potential future issues that need to be watched or treated, such as diabetes and heart disease. You don’t want to wait until these things make you sick before you start treating them.

Play in the Sand Day - If you can head for the beach today, the sand there is the best with an almost unlimited supply of the stuff, depending on what beach you go to. If not, a sandbox will do even if you just stick your feet in it and relax with a cold drink.

National Raspberry Bombe Day – I have never had one of these but they sound absolutely delicious and I love raspberries. Apparently it is a frozen dessert similar to ice cream and molded to look like a sphere that resembles a bomb, hence the name.

National Raspberry Tart Day - Tarts are believed to have come from the Middle Ages and there are many varieties to choose from. Different regions of the world have different favorites. Here in America we prefer fruit tarts, but other countries have tarts made with eggs, cheese, meat and/or vegetables. However, this is a day for the Raspberry Tarts only.

Ingersoll Day - Born on this day in 1833, Robert Green “Bob” Ingersoll was a veteran of the Civil War, an abolitionist, a political leader and a popular orator known for defending his views on agnosticism. His nickname was “The Great Agnostic”. An agnostic is basically someone who neither believes nor disbelieves in the existence of any kind of God.

Presidential Joke Day – This is a day to celebrate jokes that have been told by Presidents. Really. Apparently on this day in 1984, President Ronald Reagan told a great joke about how we were about to start bombing Russia. Not everyone thought that was funny, oddly enough. But enough were enamored with his sense of humor that they decided to take this day to celebrate the sense of humor of all of our Presidents.

Son and Daughter Day - This is a day to spend time with your children. We all love our children, as aggravating as they can be from time to time. Face it, we can all be aggravating from time to time. So don’t hold that against your kids. You love them anyway so give them a special gift today. The gift of spending time with you. After all, that is truly the best gift of all.

Kool-Aid DayCelebrated on the second weekend in August, this is a day to celebrate Kool-Aid. Created in 1927 by Edwin E. Perkins, this drink mix was the first of its’ kind and came in raspberry, cherry, grape, lemon, orange and rootbeer. There were many setbacks and a name change (it was originally Kool-Ade) on the road to making it a household name but he persevered through it all.

International Youth DayThis is a day to celebrate and encourage young people all around the world. The theme for this years celebration is, “Youth Building Peace.” The goal is to increase participation of young people in all levels of the United Nations in order to achieve sustainable human development.

Worldwide Art Day – Celebrated on the second Friday in August, this is a day to celebrate art in all of its forms all around the world. Encourage creativity in others and share your own creativity with the world.
