Today we celebrate:

Ice Cream For Breakfast Day – Celebrated on the first Saturday in February, today is a day to throw nutrition rules out the window and go ahead and have ice cream for breakfast!  It was created by Florence Rappaport from Rochester, NY sometime in the 1960’s, in order to give her sons something to look forward to besides endless days of snow and freezing cold.  The children took this celebration with them when they grew up and passed it to their friends and children who spread it as well so that now it is celebrated all over the world.

Take Your Child To The Library Day – Also celebrated on the first Saturday in February, this day was created by Nadine Lipman, a retired librarian in Connecticut, to promote the multitude of services your library can provide for you. Although this is just the fourth year of celebration, it has caught on quickly so check with your local library, they probably have some special events planned.

Ballet Day – This is a day to celebrate ballet dancing. I know several girls who are beautiful ballet dancers but we need to remember that this art form is not just for girls. There have been some pretty famous male ballet dancers that you may have heard of. If you think about it, it is a very physically demanding activity. Definitely not for wimps or “sissies”. You have to be pretty flexible, and have very strong muscles in order to do it well.

e” Day – This is a math day. Basically, “e” is used to represent the number 2.7182818... which was discovered and named after Swiss mathematician Leonhard Euler around 1727. It is an important mathematical constant that is the base of natural logarithms. If you are interested in learning more see: http://www.ndt-ed.org/EducationResources/Math/Math-e.htm

Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day – There are HIV/AIDS awareness days sprinkled around throughout the year. It's a devastating disease that affects the entire world. Make sure you know how to keep yourself safe. This day is a day to focus on making the Black community aware of the importance of HIV testing and treatments which have come along way in the last few years.

Wave All Your Fingers At Your Neighbor's Day – Put aside your differences with your neighbors today and instead of saluting them with one finger, be a little friendlier and use all of them. After all, a friendly relationship has to start somewhere. Let it start with you.

National Fettuccine Alfredo Day – A meal that my husband will enjoy even if my children turn their noses up at it. If you were wondering what to have for dinner, wonder no more.

Send A Card To A Friend Day – You don't need a special reason to let a friend know that you're thinking about them. Put a card in the mail today because your friends just might need a reminder that they are being thought of and there is no time like the present.

To celebrate today, give your kids some ice cream for breakfast. Then, put on your tutu and ballet slippers for a great workout.  After that, take your kids to the library to learn about Leonhard Euler and HIV/AIDS.  When you get home, sit outside awhile and wave all of your fingers at your neighbors as they go by. Lastly, it’s fettuccine alfredo for dinner, which you can eat while you address cards to send to your friends.
