Today we celebrate:

Work Harder Day - We can all work a little bit harder than we usually do. Let’s work on that today. It doesn’t matter what you are working on, focus harder, work more efficiently, put some more physical effort into it, whatever it takes. You can do it.

Stick To Your New Year’s Resolution Day - OK people, it’s only twelve days in. Way too early to ditch the New Year’s Resolutions you made less than two weeks ago. It takes dedication and discipline to keep going and keep working toward your goals. You have that dedication and discipline if you just dig deep and find it.

National Hot Tea Day - Created by the Tea Council of the USA (who knew there was such an organization? Not me.) in 2016, this is a day to drink a cup of hot tea. It is a healthy beverage, and a tradition that is believed to be 5,000 years old. It has become more popular in America than I realized, although probably still not as popular as it is in the United Kingdom. There is some dispute over whether this day is celebrated today or on February 12th.

Curried Chicken Day - This is a dish consisting of somewhat spicy stir fried chicken that is usually served over rice, although it doesn’t have to be.

Feast of Fabulous Wild Men Day - Ladies, this is a day for you. This is permission for you to ogle, whistle, and otherwise express your appreciation of the fantastically handsome men you come across today. Just don’t do any stalking or assaulting of any of them. That could land you in jail.

National Marzipan Day – Marzipan is used by pastry chefs to decorate cakes. I've never decorated with it but I'll have to give it a shot today.

National Pharmacist Day – Where would we be without Pharmacists? I have one in the family and I don't know what we would do without him. You can ask them anything at all about medications and if they don't know the answer off the top of their heads, they have it at their fingertips. It’s never a bad idea to talk to your pharmacist to make sure you understand everything you need to know about the medication you have been prescribed and to make sure it won’t work against whatever else you are taking.

International Kiss A Ginger Day - There is a “Kick a Ginger Day” later on in the year. But Derek Forgie didn’t like the sentiment so he created this day in retaliation. It is celebrated every year on this day and since I have a ginger in my family, I won’t have any problem celebrating, except that I’ll have to pin him down since he’s my teenaged son and will not cooperate willingly. If you don’t have easy access to a ginger, I’ll loan him to you but you’ll have to be quick, he knows karate.

Lee-Jackson Day – Celebrated on the Friday before Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, this is a day to celebrate the birthdays of Robert E. Lee and Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson. This day is usually celebrated with military ceremonies, a parade and a ball in Virginia.
