International Pisco Sour Day - Celebrated on the first Saturday in February, this is a day to share the national drink of Peru. The basic recipe involves pisco, which is a grape brandy, sugar, lemon or lime juice, and an egg white. There are probably numerous variations that can be created.
National Frozen Yogurt Day - I can’t always tell the difference between frozen yogurt and ice cream so I’m very excited about this day. Read on below and you’ll see that you will be able to revel in frozen deliciousness almost all day.
Pay-a-Compliment Day - Another day created by Adrienne Koopersmith quite a few years ago. Maybe somewhere around 1995? You’ll have to ask Ms. Koopersmith to be sure about the date. But the idea here is to go through your day looking for opportunities to compliment others. Then act on it. You lift moods and bring joy to the lives of everyone around you and it will make you feel pretty good too.
Ronald Reagan Day - Ronald Reagan was born on this day in 1911 He was Governor of California from 1967 to 1975 and President of the United States from 1981 to 1989. Californian Governors have proclaimed this day every year since 2002.
International Day of Zero Tolerance to Female Genital Mutilation – The United Nations sponsors this day to make the world aware of the fact that female genital mutilation happens in many countries of this world and we need to do whatever we can to make it stop. The first step is to get into those areas where it happens and educate parents who believe it's the right thing to do to their daughters. I can’t comprehend the mentality that allows them to hurt their children like this, but clearly tradition is a very strong force to overcome. Even when that tradition is just plain wrong.
Lame Duck Day – Elected officials who are nearing the end of their terms are considered lame ducks. This is a day to reflect upon the contributions of these ducks, I mean people, to society at large before they go off to obscurity. If you don't like the official leaving office, give them a break today. After all, they will be out of office very shortly.
Ice Cream For Breakfast Day – Celebrated on the first Saturday in February, today is a day to throw nutrition rules out the window and go ahead and have ice cream for breakfast! It was created by Florence Rappaport from Rochester, NY sometime in the 1960’s, in order to give her sons something to look forward to besides endless days of snow and freezing cold. The children took this celebration with them when they grew up and passed it to their friends and children who spread it as well so that now it is celebrated all over the world.
Take Your Child To The Library Day – Also celebrated on the first Saturday in February, this day was created by Nadine Lipman, a retired librarian in Connecticut, to promote the multitude of services your library can provide for you. Although this is just the fifth year of celebration, it has caught on quickly so check with your local library, they probably have some special events planned.
