Hostess Cupcake Day - Hostess Cupcakes are delicious. Let me just say that right now. They are ridiculously bad for you, but isn’t everything that is delicious? I say that as long as you don’t eat them every day, once in awhile can’t be too bad. If you are eating them every day, you might want to re-evaluate your lifestyle. Otherwise, enjoy one today.
Eat What You Want Day – This is a day to pick something you REALLY love to eat, and then go ahead and eat it today. I think the creators of this day intend for you to eat whatever you want all day long but you should be very cautious about doing that if you have diabetes, food allergies or other health issues that revolve around food in some way. My suggestion would be to pick one thing, eat it slowly and really enjoy it.
Twilight Zone Day – The Twilight Zone, for those of you too young to have seen it, was a television series that began in 1959, in black and white. You can probably find reruns of them on air on one of your many channels today if you look. They were twisted, suspenseful, and a little bit scary, for their time, because of all the “what if” questions they acted out for your imagination to run with.
National Root Canal Appreciation Day - Created by Dr. Chris Kammer, a dentist, this is a day to appreciate the relief that a root canal can give you. Root canals have a bad rap, mostly because no one ever wants one. They hurt for a several days afterward. But they are absolutely necessary if you are in pain because the roots of your teeth have problems. So don’t be afraid to get one, a little pain now will free you from long term pain in the future.
School Nurse Day – Celebrated on the Wednesday within National Nurses Week which is always from May 6th through May 12th. School nurses take care of our children's bumps, bruises, cuts, scrapes and illnesses every day. They are vital to the health and wellness of our children in public and private schools. Today is a day to let them know how much we appreciate them.
National Receptionist Day – Created by the National Receptionists Association and celebrated on the 2nd Wednesday in May, this is a day to celebrate the receptionists that work in almost every company in America. When a customer walks in the door if the receptionist doesn't make a good impression on behalf of the company, many times that customer will walk back out again. They work hard to maintain the image of their company and to promote that company's capabilities.
National Night Shift Workers Day – Another day celebrated on the second Wednesday in May. This is a day to honor those brave individuals who work at night and sleep during the day in order to keep the companies they work for operating 24 hours a day. I did it for one week when I was much younger and I thank God that I didn't have to do it any longer because I was exhausted. That is a danger that people who live this lifestyle face, perpetual exhaustion which can make doing everything much more dangerous. You find night shift workers in many organizations. The ones that comes to mind immediately are hospitals, police departments, paramedics and other health related industries although those are not, by any stretch of the imagination, all that there are.
