Today we celebrate:

National Acorn Squash Day - First grown by Native Americans back in the day, this food has been loved for hundreds of years as an easy to grow vegetable.  I’m not sure how they cooked it back then but these days there are a multitude of recipes that make it delectable.  I like it to be the main dish, stuffed with a sausage mixture.

Google Commemoration Day – On this day in 1996, Google was created. It has since become a household word and is synonymous with finding out any kind of information.

Grandma Moses Day – Anna Mary Robertson Moses was born on this day in 1860. She was what the art world labels a “primitive” painter because she didn't go to art school.  She was a self taught artist who started painting at the age of 78 which is why she earned the name “Grandma Moses.”

Neither Rain Nor Snow Day – The U.S. Post Office legend says, “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of nights stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.” On this day in 1914, exactly 100 years ago, the New York Post Office Building on 8th Avenue opened to the public.

Salami Day – A meat that is cured, fermented (Really? I didn’t even know you could do that to meat.) and air-dried, and very popular in Italian families.  I like to add a slice of salami to my sandwiches to add a little zest to the flavor. Have some salami any way you like it today.

World Beard Day – This is a day to celebrate facial hair. Do you have a beard? If you don't have one, and you are male, don't shave today. Maybe by the end of the day you'll have the start of one.

National Grandparent's DayCelebrated on the first Sunday after Labor Day, this is a day to celebrate Grandparents. It was begun in 1970 by Marian McQuade who lobbied politicians to create a day which would encourage families to spend time with their older relatives. She finally was able to get it through to President Jimmy Carter in 1978 and he signed it into law.

To celebrate today, don’t let the weather stop you from visiting your grandparents today so you can show them your beard.  Then bring out your inner artist and make a Google doodle about salami and acorn squash.
