National Popcorn Day – today is my
daughter's favorite day. She lives on popcorn. Try some fun popcorn
related activities with the kids today. Decorate the house with
popcorn strings, mix popcorn with different ingredients like chocolate or cinnamon and see what
it tastes like. Fill a container with popcorn and guess how many
kernels are in it. Have popcorn fights. Your imagination (and
tolerance for messes) is your only boundary.
Tin Can Day – the tin can was
patented in 1810 by Peter Durand. The can opener was patented by
William Lyman in 1870. Hmmmm. Does anyone else see a 60 year
problem here?
To celebrate today, fill a tin can with
a few dozen unpopped popcorn kernels, put plastic wrap over it and
secure with a rubber band. Now shake it and you have a musical
instrument that you can use to express your enjoyment of the bowl of popped popcorn that you are eating.
