Today we celebrate:

National Tempura Day – Everything tastes better dipped in a flour and water batter and deep fried. This is a popular Japanese dish that originally came to them via Portuguese traders and missionaries.

National Old Rock Day – Today is a day for finding, excavating, or just appreciating old rocks of all kinds, including fossils and gemstones. For the adventurous among you, there are lots of rock related activities for adults and children that I found on this web site: http://www.altiusdirectory.com/Society/old-rock-day.php for the less adventurous and naughty among you, simply pull out that coal that Santa left in your stocking and admire it for a while.

I'm Not Going To Take It Anymore Day – Today is a day of action. Whatever it is that upsets you...your job, your hair, your weight, your love life, your children leaving their shoes and coats right in the doorway as they come in....today is the day to fix it. Look for a new job, get a new hair cut, go to the gym and start a diet, kick the bozo to the curb and go out and find a new bozo, tell your children you will charge them $10 every time you step on one of their shoes. Whatever it is that is making you crazy....find a way to fix it!

Harlem Globetrotter's Day – On this day in 1927, the Harlem Globetrotter's played their first game. That first season they won 101 out of 117 games. For more fascinating information of this team named after Harlem in NYC see: http://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/harlem-globetrotters-play-their-first-game

Orthodox Christmas – Orthodox Christians, working from the Gregorian calendar, celebrate Christmas today. Those of us who celebrate on December 25 are using the Julian calendar, which supposedly predates the Gregorian calendar but I don't know anyone old enough to verify that information.

So to consolidate your celebrations you can sing Christmas carols while you dig a hole in the back yard with your kids looking for rocks. Then line up your treasures to admire on table in front of you while you watch an old Harlem Globetrotter's cartoon. For dinner, since you can't stand cooking for ungrateful people who don't like anything you make anyway, fix it by going out to dinner at a Japanese place that makes good tempura with your spouse and children who will be very nice to you because they don't want to be kicked to the curb for making you crazy.  Have a wonderful day today!
