Join Hands Day – This is a day
that is about bringing together young people and adults to build
trust and respect. This day was begun and is promoted by the
American Fraternal Alliance.

World Laughter Day – Created
in 1998 by Dr. Matan Kataria, also the creator of an exercise routine
called Laughter Yoga, this day is about spreading the message of the
best medicine not created by doctors. Celebrated in more than 70
countries world wide, the mission of this day is to spread world
peace, joy and good health. This day is celebrated on the first
Sunday in May every year. http://www.worldlaughterday.org/
International Day Of The Midwife
– The theme this year is “The world needs midwives now more than
ever!” Midwives have, I think, been around longer than doctors and
have been an important resource for women giving birth to their
babies.
Cinco de Mayo – This day
commemorates the victory of the Mexican Army over France in 1862 at
the Battle of Puebla during the Franco – Mexican War. Not a big
celebration in Mexico, but in the United States, it has become a
celebration of Mexican culture and heritage.
Oyster Day – A shellfish that
is found in fresh or salt water. It's supposed to have aphrodisiac
qualities so for a romantic night with your sweetheart, start with
some oysters for dinner.
International Baby Lost Mother's
Day, or International Bereaved Mother's Day – This is a
temporary movement. Created by Anna Jarvis to honor her mother, Ann,
who had to live through the death of 7 of her children. I cannot
imagine that depth of pain. Mother's Day has become very
commercialized and mothers of children who have died have been
forgotten or ignored. This is a movement to bring back the true
meaning of mother's day.

Cartoonists Day – On this day
in 1895, the first color cartoon was published. Now I can't imagine a
Sunday newspaper without them, not to mention all those comic books
that my kids loved so much.
National Infertility Survival Day
– While some people seem to get pregnant if you just sneeze on
them, others have a great deal of trouble achieving what becomes the
unattainable dream. Having a child can be the most stressful and
frustrating and heartbreaking goal of a couple's life.
Totally Chipotle Day –
Chipotle is a flavor that is Mexican - Indian in origin, but it is
rapidly becoming very popular in the United States as well. It is
celebrated today to compliment Cinco de Mayo.
Motorcycle Mass & Blessing Of
The Bikes Day – Celebrated on the first Sunday in May, this is
a day for motorcyclists everywhere to gather at a special mass to
have their bikes blessed.
To celebrate today, start out by
calling up my mother to wish her a happy birthday. Then you can head
right over to the National Air & Space Museum for their Family
Day that you promised your kids yesterday that they would see today.
Make sure you hold their hands so they don't get lost, no matter how
old they are. It's a big museum. Next, make sure you wish everyone
you meet a Happy Cinco de Mayo and laugh about everything. Your
family will think you're loony, but you'll be healthier than anyone
else. On the way home, stop at a church having a Motorcycle Mass and
add your prayers that the cyclists will stay safe this year. When
you get home, make sure you line up a midwife for the next time you
(or your wife) have a baby. If you know of anyone who has lost a
child, or who really wants one and is having difficulties making that
happen, call them up to let them know that you are thinking of them
today. Next, give the kids the newspaper cartoons to read while you
make something with chipotle for dinner for them and make yourself
and your significant other some oysters.
