Today we celebrate:

Lupercalia – An ancient Roman holiday (possibly even pre-Roman) related to Valentine's Day, that involved celebrating one of the gods they worshiped back then, although we don't know which one. We do know that it involved rituals intending to promote fertility.

National Hippo Day – A day for celebrating and appreciating hippo's the world over.

Remember The Maine Day – The Maine was the U.S. battleship that was blown up on this day in 1898 while it was at anchor.

Susan B. Anthony Day – Celebrates the birth of Susan B. Anthony who was so important to the Women's Suffrage movement a hundred years ago. It's hard to believe that just 100 years ago, women were not allowed to vote. I, for one, never miss an opportunity to exercise my right to vote and I appreciate everything that women back then went through so that I have that right.

National Gum Drop Day – Some are sweet, some are spicy, some are sour, they come in all the colors of the rainbow. Enjoy a few today.

Singles Awareness Day – Ok, Valentine's Day is over, now it's time for all of the single people out there to stand up and proudly say that it's okay to be single.

To celebrate today you can munch on gum drops while you ride your hippo to the library to find a book on the Maine that you can read to your children. While you're there, find a book on Susan B. Anthony too. Just don't take too long, hippos don't park well. When you get home, tell your spouse that you're ready to start the fertility rituals so that you can have another baby. After that it probably won't be long before you're able to end the day by standing on the front porch and shouting to the world that you can be perfectly happy in your newly single status.
